This wild, angular piece of architecture rests on a hill overlooking GuMiDong, South Korea. An escape from the busy town below, the Nok Sung Hun House is a natural retreat without leaving the city at all. It features a central yard that is flanked by the main home and its guest house, coming to a point that drops sharply to the landscape below. The yard itself is lush with trees, natural wood decking and plenty of well-placed lights. While the surroundings are tight, the occupant of this house can take a peaceful, private stroll into an open natural space on a whim. The structure of this home is bold, angular, almost sculpture-like in its makeup. The slatted metal roof provides much of its character, while at night the lit interior and outer garden take the main stage visually. The interior is private and warm, with the slatted metal character from the roof continued as an accent to the walls and ceilings. Otherwise white walls and ceilings, wooden floors and fixtures make the interior as comfortable and personal in comparison to the city around its walls.
